‘The homemaker has the ultimate career. All other careers exist for one purpose only…to support the ultimate career’. With ‘Mrs. Funnybones’, our very loved columnist and actress, Twinkle Khanna, has made a debut in the world of writing. No doubt this book has wit and humor in it, it also relates to the daily happenings of a working wife. Just because you are a celebrity, it is not compulsory that life treats you fair and is a mere cakewalk. Instead, life turns out to be a rollercoaster ride, surpassing the crests and troughs that lay ahead. Twinkle has outdone herself by being able to portray the picture of a modern wife in such a way that her book strikes hard on the heart and mind of the common people (readers).
Unafraid to speak her mind and quoting some really relevant examples, she tries her level best to make every chapter interesting. The most striking feature of this book is the change of course from using the same old chapter number and names and instead, using the alphabets and naming the chapters beginning with the same letters of the English alphabet. Another positive feature of this book is that it is a quick read.
Being a Penguin product, there is no question about the proofreading, editing or font. Everything is amalgamating with the concept of the book- the initial anecdotes (before every chapter), the sweet sketches, the cover of the book, the title and what not!
However, this book did not quite match with the level of writing used in the columns of TOI- close but not cigar! Mrs. Funnybones was definitely hyped a lot, just like any other venture by any other hot shot would have been, but it was not that great. While reading the book, it actually felt like nothing new was happening and the same old routine was being played on repeat, in form of words.
For the love of Akshay’s wife and her satirical but honest columns, one must go for this book and give it a try!
