ABOUT PROJECT SYAHI

Enactus is an international non-profit student-run organization working along the lines of social entrepreneurship. We, at Enactus Kirori Mal aim to achieve a social change by employing entrepreneurial principles, processes, and operations.

A team of more than 70 students, we follow a  process of identification of problems and discovering innovative solutions, which would then require entrepreneurial action. Keeping this in mind, we came across such a problem which was very casually overlooked by the general masses.

On 19th September 2019, Enactus Kirori Mal took a step towards solving the ever-growing problem of single-use plastic by launching Project Syahi.

Little by Little, A Little becomes a Lot. For the majority of us plastic pollution is limited to bottles and bags and while single-use plastic pens might not present as the biggest cause of the plastic menace, but in India alone, more than 1.65 crore pens are discarded every month.

Syahi’s paper pens are hand-crafted with upcycled paper with a ball-point tip and are fully customizable as per the likes of the user. Our pens create triple the impact, by not just reusing waste paper and replacing plastic but also by allowing the user to give back to the environment by planting a sapling, from the seed attached at the rear end of the pen.

Partnering us at every step of the way is an underprivileged community of women, based in Tilak Nagar, New Delhi. Bound by patriarchy and burdened with poverty, these women were tied down by the shackles of rigid societal norms. Syahi has played the role of a beacon in their lives and has proved to be a source of empowerment for them.

With such unique features Syahi was instantly in demand in the market with orders coming from different sectors of society, ranging from corporates such as IBM to reputed hospitals like AIIMS and CNBC. We’ve also collaborated with various schools and stationery shops across India. With orders from The University Store in Ludhiana, we have started our journey to make Syahi a household name across the country.

We, at Enactus Kirori Mal, want everyone to write their story of a bright and sustainable future.

Syahi writes the tales of women turning into entrepreneurs, and the environment turning into a sustainable one, hence our motto: Scribble. Sow. Save
